The driver became a police officer in Ovenden

Two teenagers have been arrested after a car rear-ended a police officer in West Yorkshire.

The black Mercedes A180 was stopped by officers on Vegal Crescent in Ovenden, near Halifax, shortly before 1200 GMT on November 7, West Yorkshire Police said.

The policeman was hit by the car while approaching him and suffered minor injuries. The car left the scene before being abandoned.

A 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were later arrested and released on bail, police said.

The car had been traveling on Ovenden Way towards Lee Mount when it was first seen by officers.

It was later found abandoned on Moorside Gardens at approximately 12:15 GMT.

Claire Smith, Det. Ch. said: “This was clearly a dangerous incident where an officer, doing his job, ended up injured and taken to hospital.”

She asked anyone who had footage of the Mercedes before or after the incident to contact police.
