Indiana jobless claims rose last week

Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Indiana rose last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Labor Department said Thursday.

New jobless claims, a gauge of layoffs, rose to 4,084 in the week ended Nov. 9, from 2,979 in the previous week, the Labor Department said.

US jobless claims fell to 217,000 last week, down 4,000 from 221,000 the previous week on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Alaska saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing by 56.0%. Michigan, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, at 34.9 percent.
