SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News ) – Police in Vermont say a gas station clerk is facing charges after shooting two juveniles involved in a convenience store robbery.

South Burlington police say Domonic Ali-Koarti, 34, was behind the counter at a Shell gas station on Williston Road last week when two juveniles robbed the store at gunpoint.

Investigators said Ali-Koarti told officers he handed the money to the suspects and followed them outside. He then saw two muzzle flashes and thought the thieves were shooting at him, so he drew his gun and fired several shots at them.

The juveniles told police they were trying to flee the scene.

Authorities said Ali-Koarti now faces aggravated assault charges in the incident.

The juvenile suspects were cited for assault and robbery.
