OAK CREEK, Wisc. — An Oak Creek veteran lost almost everything after his storage locker was broken into on Veteran’s Day.

Paul Black’s daughter Elizabeth says the unit was broken into and almost everything he owned was stolen.

“They stole over $10,000 worth of his belongings – his shoes, clothes, awards and medals from the military,” Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth is Paul’s only child.

Growing up, she remembers coming home from Iraq after being wounded in a series of bombings.

“His brain doesn’t work the way a normal person should, and he suffers a lot from post-traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia, anxiety, a lot of mental disorders,” Elizabeth said.

Originally from Detroit, she says she moved to the Milwaukee area just to be closer to her.

“I felt so terrible for him because the only reason he has his stuff in storage is because he moved in with my grandpa so he could pay my tuition. He sold his house to pay for my tuition,” Elizabeth said.

After hearing what happened, Elizabeth jumped into action, creating a GoFundMe to help her father try to recover what he lost.

“He is a retired veteran. So he’s living off Social Security and he just doesn’t have the money to buy all that stuff back,” Elizabeth said.

So far, she says they haven’t gotten much help from the company, Storage Rentals of America.

TMJ4 tried to call but was unsuccessful.

Elizabeth says her father also filed a report with the Oak Creek Police Department and is now waiting for the investigation to be completed to file for insurance.

“It feels like my dad is really alone in this. And unfortunately I can’t be there to support him,” Elizabeth said.

She hopes that by speaking out, her father can get the help and justice he deserves.

“I’ve always tried to be there for him and take care of him because I know he needs him and I know he’s trying to do the same for me,” Elizabeth said.
