WASHINGTON (KUMV) – There will be leadership changes in Washington next year, but there is still work to be done beforehand.

Both the Senate and House will issue appropriations bills before the Dec. 20 spending deadline. They will also have to think about the upcoming Farm Bill.

Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont, said he wants a new five-year bill drafted soon, but admits that may not happen until newly elected officials are in office.

“I think there’s political partisanship right now and we might have better light and opportunities when we turn the corner in January,” Daines said.

Both chambers are in session through Thanksgiving week and then resume for the first three weeks of December.

Daines said Republicans are also working with President-elect Donald Trump in preparation for his return in January.
