Woman arrested months after allegedly threatening victim with knife during Horry County robbery

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A woman is behind bars months after she allegedly threatened a victim with a knife during a robbery in Horry County.

Records show Joquella Bryant, 40, was arrested Wednesday and charged with armed robbery, as well as felony shoplifting and drug possession.

Documents obtained by WMBF News state that her armed robbery charge is related to an incident that occurred on Jan. 4 at the Food Lion on Highway 701 in Loris.

In the incident report from the Horry County Police Department, officers were told Bryant took about $300 worth of merchandise from the store and left without paying.

The victim and a witness followed Bryant to the parking lot, where the victim grabbed the shopping cart full of merchandise.

According to the report, the victim told Bryant that he could leave, but that the stroller had to stay. Bryant then allegedly tried to punch the victim – but was blocked when the victim grabbed his jacket.

Police were told Bryant pulled out a knife and threatened both the victim and a witness before getting into a car and driving off. Two other people were also spotted with her.

Bryant’s arrest Wednesday came after Horry County police received a call about a reported theft at the Tanger Outlets on Highway 17.

A police report states that Bryant attempted to shoplift at least $500 worth of merchandise from Old Navy and H&M stores.

The documents also show that Bryant was found with cocaine and crack cocaine on her at the time of her arrest. Police also allegedly discovered tools such as scissors, screw cutters, wire cutters, a hex wrench and a bent silver rod in her purse.

The police report also says Bryant did not speak to law enforcement and tried to give them a different name and date of birth.
