Woman facing charges following standoff with Missoula police

A suspect is facing multiple charges following a standoff with Missoula police Wednesday afternoon.

The Missoula Police Department reports that a 39-year-old woman is being held on pending charges, including assault with a weapon and assault on a domestic partner.



The incident began at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday when MPD responded to the 1700 block of Cooley Street on a report of a disturbance involving a “sharp-edged weapon.”

MPD notes that an investigation is ongoing and there is no threat to the public.

Missoula police confirmed with KPAX that the suspect involved in the altercation was arrested Wednesday night.

Police at the scene tell us the person was taken to a local hospital for treatment. MPD says the injuries were not life threatening.

There is no longer any risk to the public.

The Missoula Police Department is advising the public to avoid the 1700 block of Cooley Street due to a standoff.

MPD spokeswoman Whitney Bennett says at approximately 1 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a disturbance involving a “sharp-edged weapon.”

Bennett said that due to the nature of the incident, the SWAT team was activated just before 2:30 p.m.

People are asked to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel space to address the situation.
