Big Island Lake man wanted for forcible arrest, assault with a weapon

A Big Island Lake Cree Territory man is facing a list of criminal charges after a woman he allegedly forcibly imprisoned escaped and managed to get help.

According to the RCMP, officers received a report that a man had assaulted and locked up an adult woman at a residence on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the man and woman were previously known, and the woman reported non-life-threatening injuries after the escape.

RCMP said officers executed a search warrant at a home on Big Island Lake Cree territory Tuesday night, where they found a gun, a machete and a club.

Lorne Singer, a 42-year-old Big Island Lake Cree resident, was later charged with forcible confinement, breaking and entering, assault, battery with a weapon, carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, harassment felony, negligent storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

A warrant has been issued for Singer’s arrest, RCMP said Thursday, and the public is asked to report any sightings or information about his whereabouts.

“Lorne Singer is described as approximately 6’0” tall and 150 lbs. He has brown eyes and black hair,” RCMP said in a statement.

“If you see Lorne Singer, don’t go near him.”

The Big Island Lake Cree Territory is located northwest of Meadow Lake near the Alberta border.
