Roberto Curletto, aged 76, died on Tuesday, November 12, at the Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, after an accident during a walk with his wife in Cervia, in the province of Ravenna. Originally from the province of Como, but a long-time resident of Varese, he was well-known in Como and Varese not only for his profession, but also for his passion for running and his commitment to social causes, especially within the cultural association Famiglia Comasca. Even in his old age, he continued to run and excel in marathons. He had gone to Cervia with his wife for a few days of relaxation and, at the time of the tragedy, they were walking on a path reserved for pedestrians and cyclists. On Friday, November 8, he was in Romagna for a short vacation. While walking on a pedestrian and bicycle path on Via Oriani in the center of Cervia, he was hit by a car. According to witnesses, Curletto managed to save his wife from the impact, being hit and thrown 30 meters. The accident occurred when Curletto noticed a Volkswagen which, according to witnesses, was zig-zagging in their direction. Realizing the danger, the 76-year-old man promptly moved his wife, shielding her from the impact, but he himself was hit. While the woman suffered only minor injuries, Curletto was rushed to the hospital in Cesena, where he remained in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit and eventually died after four days in hospital. The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for road homicide, investigating the driver of the car, a 74-year-old man from Forlì, to clarify the dynamics of the accident.
