Police on Thursday arrested a sarpanch, who is the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader of a village in Kosigi mandal, and two of his associates for allegedly trying to sexually assault a minor girl.

According to the police, accused D. Boya Usaini entered the girl’s house while his associates Boya Vinod and Boya Majjiga Surya Narayana kept watch outside. Usaini woke the girl from her sleep and forced her to come with him. While the girl raised an alarm, her grandfather woke up, after which Usaini and the other two fled the house.

The girl’s parents migrated to Karnataka for work and she stayed with her grandfather. After informing her parents, the girl filed a police complaint on November 11. A case under POCSO Act 2012 and NBS was registered against the accused, after which the trio fled. The three accused were arrested on November 13 (Wednesday) near Urukunda Arch in Kosigi and produced before the court on Thursday.
