Jennings Creek Wildfire updates response from Wednesday

Efforts to contain The Jennings Creek Fire continued Wednesday with a new set of challenges on day six.

Here’s the latest on Wednesday’s fires. Check back throughout the day for updates.

The Jennings Creek Fire is 50 percent contained as it has burned more than 2,283 acres in New Jersey alone, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said in a update posted on Facebook at 7 p.m., Wednesday.

The fire was previously 30 percent contained in the NJFFS update posted at noon Wednesday.

Two residential structures remain threatened, while zero structures have been evacuated, the report said.

Greenwood Lake, New York District Schools will almost Thursday and Friday. There will be no afterschool activities either.

Several local police departments, including the Kinnelon Police Department and the Boonton Police Department issued warnings about the smell of smoke in the area.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says fire smoke can travel far from where the fire is burning and make anyone sick. Some people may be at higher risk of getting sick, including those with chronic conditions such as asthma, those who are pregnant, children and responders.

National Meteorological Service ADVISED of an increased risk of wildfire spreading through Wednesday evening.

“Due to the combination of marginal winds and very low relative humidity, these conditions could support the rapid spread of any fires that do ignite, which could quickly become difficult to control,” the NWS reported.

The fire was 30 percent contained Wednesday morning, the latest update from the New Jersey Wildfire Service.

Two residential structures remain threatened in New Jersey and eight in the Long Pond Ironworks Historic District. A total of 2,283 acres burned.
