Which cities and regions had the highest inflation in October?

Americans across the country are facing much differently inflation rates depending on where they live in the US, the latest inflation data showing that consumers in the Northeast and Midwest are experiencing higher inflation than their peers across the country.

The Labor Department released its inflation report for October on Wednesday, which found that consumer price index (CPI) — a broad measure of the cost of everyday goods such as gas, groceries and rent — rose 2.6 percent from a year ago for the U.S. as a whole, in line with expectations, as inflation rose amid a broader cooling trend.

However, the rate of inflation is much faster in some parts of the country than in other areas.

The Northeast region posted inflation of 3.5 percent in October compared with a year ago, the fastest of the four geographic regions analyzed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and well above the national inflation rate. Regionally, New England had inflation of 3.3 percent, while the Mid-Atlantic had 3.6 percent.
