Watch the moment mortified Kate Garraway is told to ‘let the guest speak’ by Good Morning bosses as she is berated live during I’m A Celeb interview

Kate Garraway was scolded by bosses who were told to ‘let the guest speak’ in an awkward moment during Good Morning Britain on Thursday.

The TV presenter, 57, was presenting the show with her co-host Richard Madeley, 63, when they welcomed comedian Babatúndé Aléshé into the studio for an interview.

He appeared on the ITV program to dish out his best I’m A Celeb survival tips and share his thoughts on this year’s series after going Down Under himself as a fellow camper who took part in the 2022 series.

He candidly explained why he couldn’t take part in the Walk The Plank challenge, which saw him quit and break down in tears.

Kate was quick to chime in to share her own experience with pregnancy when she tried it as a contestant in 2019.

Babatúndé explained, “When Charlene (White) came out, they took the board out after she got to the end, so I was like, I got there, I got stuck and that was enough for me.”

Kate joked: ‘It’s so windy, no one tells you that. When we did, they took Ant and Dec down for a bit because they were just checking all the security and I said, “What about us?”

“It was so scary and they were always putting in tricks, like there were goals, it was a see-saw. Mine was a ladder down, then you go to another plank and look down.

He then spoke about the science behind the fear of heights, explaining: “It’s a very basic fear, the fear of heights.

“There was a lot of research done, and one research was that they put the baby crawlers in a chamber of a square of Plexiglas.”

Kate went on to explain the study, before joking: “We’re going to go off on a tangent here…”

After hearing a warning from producers in her ear, she admitted: “They just told me to let you speak, it’s the right thing to do, you’re the guest.”

Moving on to a new topic, Richard asked Babatúndé, “Who’s your money on then?”, to which he replied, “Ohh, I don’t know, it hasn’t even really started.”

Viewers were quick to pick up on the awkward moment of the interview and took to social media to share their thoughts, writing:

“Richard and Kate love the sound of their own voices. We just talk over each other and about the guests. It hurts #gmb.’

“I thought it was about Babatunde #gmb.”

“Man can’t talk to these 2 muppets! Shut the hell up!! #GMB.’

“How many times is Kate going to walk right over Richard during this interview? How rude?! #GMB.’

It comes just after Richard addressed his 1990s theft arrest live on Good Morning Britain as he claimed it was “easy to forget to pay for things”.

The broadcaster was presenting the ITV breakfast show with co-host Kate Garraway last week during a segment about giving store security guards more powers.

The two discussed the suggestion that store detectives should be allowed to arrest or perhaps handcuff suspected shoplifters, even suggesting that supermarkets have cells built into them.

After hearing a warning from producers in her ear, she admitted:

Urging viewers to have their say on the idea, Kate said: “There is such a scourge of shoplifting and it causes so many problems for retailers and everyone else. So tell us what you think.

After reading some of the comments that were submitted, Richard shared his thoughts, acknowledging his own experiences.

He said: “I know from my own experience that it’s very easy to forget to pay for things.”

The presenter continued: “And woah, just a minute a shop detective, would you really accept a shop detective handcuffing you?

“I mean, you’d be like, ‘Woah, wait! I just made an honest mistake, let me explain.” There is a lot to do there.

Richard was arrested in 1994 for failing to pay for items, including champagne, on two occasions at a Tesco supermarket in Walkden, Greater Manchester. A jury later found him not guilty of the crime after pleading a lack of memory.

Speaking of the incident at Sun. last year he said: “Thank God Twitter didn’t exist then. But the whole thing was so obviously crazy that not paying was negligence.

“It was leaked by someone at Tesco. But at the time, I thought, “Well, of course it’s going to be okay because otherwise the world has gone mad.” I never felt like I was going to be undone.

“Granada Television was fantastic. And months after they found out and knew the facts of the case and knew it was rubbish, they told me not to worry.

“I carried on as usual. I went to the Crown Court, my lawyer told me to go in front of a jury so people could see it was obvious negligence. So that’s what I did. And I was absolutely acquitted.

“But I told the viewers about it. I mean, Judy had to open this morning by herself, while I was in court for two minutes, then I’d get in the car and drive from Manchester to Liverpool, go to bed, go on set while she was at mid interview, and sit and join. It was surreal.

He added: “After the trial it was like it never happened. I’ve never talked about it because, like I said at the beginning of this interview, when you’re in front of the camera, you’re one sentence away and you can get it wrong so easily.
