LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas is poised to be the center of entertainment, sports and conventions.

As we move from one big event to another, these events are planned from every angle, including for the safety of our city.

The FBI tells FOX5 they are well prepared because they have set up a command post in their building to have a team assigned at all times to handle major events in our city.

Their command post operates on election day.

Since it was the eyes that would rule our nation, the FBI had its eyes on something else.

“A couple of things that came up was a scary white powder letter that we had that came from another field office that worked on that event,” said Jeremy Schwartz, Acting Special Agent in Charge.

Although that white powder letter was received by another FBI office, Schwartz tells FOX5 that their headquarters in Washington DC could alert them if they thought a similar letter was headed to Las Vegas.

“We’re quickly contacting our local partners like the United States Postal Service, letting them know what’s going on, and setting up our own unit with our own entities, those who are familiar with weapons of mass destruction to be there for to be there. he gets that letter,” Schwartz said.

In their command post on election day, everything is set and it will be a similar game plan for Formula 1, but with the help of local partners at the Fusion Center.

Schwartz said their headquarters will also monitor any potential threats and address them, then forward them to Schwartz and his team.

Schwartz said that last year, when there was a hole that appeared and interrupted the race, it sparked threats online globally.

“When we have a command post that works like that and we can quickly identify the source and where they’re coming from and whether or not they have the means to carry out the attacks,” Schwartz said.

In addition to their command post and Fusion Center, the FBI will also have bomb technicians near the racetracks and there will also be undercover agents mingling with the crowds.
