Trump has nominated Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to be his attorney general, he posted on his social media.

Gaetz was seen riding with Trump in the motorcade on Wednesday during the president-elect’s visit to Washington, DC

The role is a Senate-confirmed appointment.

Trump called Gaetz a “profoundly talented and tenacious lawyer” who “will end gun government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations and restore Americans’ severely shattered faith and trust in the Department of Justice.”

Gaetz is Trump’s explosive pick to be the federal government’s chief law enforcement officer, leading the very same executive branch of government that has spent years investigating allegations involving the Florida congressman. Gaetz was advised that the DOJ would do so not looking for accusations just last year. He has long denied any wrongdoing.

Gaetz faces a probe in progress by the House Ethics Committee for the same charges, related to sex trafficking and obstruction of justice.

Gaetz has gone to Mar-a-Lago almost daily since Election Day, helping to make suggestions and input on other administration picks, sources told ABC News.
