Neighbors react to Wednesday morning’s shooting in downtown San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police tape and police cars covered several blocks of Union Street in downtown San Diego Wednesday. Although it was so the scene of November 13a normal day doesn’t look like this, according to neighbors.

“I would say Union Street is always busy, but not that much traffic,” Ashytn Larson said. “I wouldn’t say it’s a busy street.”

Larson is a neighbor and lives right across the street from the set. He was getting ready to leave when the shooting happened.

“I just woke up and heard some gunshots that I thought, I didn’t know,” Larson said. “But then I came here later, I saw a bunch of police cars. I saw the scene from my apartment.”

Other neighbors, like Evelyn Rascon, were in a similar boat.
“So this morning, I was getting ready and I just heard a helicopter calling for a white man in a white shirt, so I automatically thought something was out of the ordinary,” Rascon said. “I got ready, I was on my way to the gym, right here, a block from here, and I just saw all the cops coming out on Ash Street going down to Kettner’s.”

As for Larson, she hopes things will go back to the way they were before.

“The typical day on this street here is pretty quiet, not much going on,” Larson said.
