First weather alert: Clouds and some showers return on Thursday

ROCHESTER, NY — Our beautiful sunshine Wednesday will fade as an area of low pressure approaches from the west. Clouds will initially begin to thicken Wednesday night. Some limited sunshine on Thursday will certainly be defeated by a mostly cloudy sky and we will eventually see some showers move in by the evening. Widespread rain will become more scattered as it moves into western New York and flows into drier air. That means areas west of Rochester will get a better chance of a few showers, with a better chance of staying dry east of Rochester.

Any showers that develop will do so after 4 or 5pm and clear overnight. This will set us up for a nice end to the work week, with sunshine and seasonal temperatures returning on Friday.

The weekend also looks pretty good, with mostly sunny skies on Saturday along with highs in the 50s. Sunday will see an increase in cloud cover, but we still think we should see dry weather for the Bills game. There is a very small chance Sunday will sneak in late evening, but those chances remain very low. We’ll likely see a few showers on Monday, followed by drier and slightly cooler air on Tuesday. Looking ahead, there are some signs that we may start to see some hints of winter over the Great Lakes by the end of next week. Granted, it’s more than a week away, but it’s something we’ll keep an eye on.
