Messy morning drive before another cooldown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Clouds are building into a dry and warm Wednesday, but the day itself is dry. The rain returned for all, if not by midnight, then soon after. Thursday morning is our first WVLT alert from 6:00-10:00

The weekend is extremely quiet. A huge cold blast is set for late next week.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A High Wind Warning is posted for the Smokies Peaks. 441 is already closed before the mountain wave event.

The clouds began to roll in. It rains here from west to east right around midnight. Coverage will increase to nearly 100% in the pre-dawn hours. The first alert, however, is between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. This is when the most inconvenient puddle from the constant rain will occur.

Note that this is not a severe weather threat, but it will be very messy for the unit.

There will be a few off and on showers later in the day. Temperatures don’t really move a muscle; we will be stuck in the 50s most of the day.

There is a lot of cloud cover on Friday as the top of the system moves through. It looks like the rain will be heavy on Friday, but temperatures may not warm up too much.

Looking ahead

The weekend should be spectacularly sunny and slightly warmer than the last couple of days. We are back to above average and have nice weather for the Vols football game in Georgia. Sunday is mild and dry, as is Monday.

Clouds start to roll in again on Tuesday ahead of a rain generator next Wednesday. The difference is that this event will bring much cooler air next week.

More than three weeks later than usual, we are looking at the potential for a very late frost.
