FIRST ALERT | Chris Bailey watches the heavy rain in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Another heavy rain generator is moving into Kentucky today and will carry us through Thursday. This is part of the active setup that is slowly changing the model to look more like a winter one over the next few weeks.

Let’s kick things off with today’s system before we look at the wild pattern ahead.

A few thunderstorms move into western Kentucky early today and roll eastward as a storm system moves from the Plains to the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley. A general rain of 1″-3″ looks likely for much of the state through tomorrow.

Rain is likely to persist through much of Friday across central and eastern Kentucky. Temperatures look quite cold on a northwesterly flow behind the departing system.

The weather for the weekend looks good enough to get out there and turn on some Christmas lights, so go for it!

A wintry aspect is settling in for the middle and end of next week. That could bring some flakes to the region.
