New York Giants Stock Report at Bye

Unfortunately, the New York Giants are 2-8 heading into the bye week. After collecting two wins through the first five weeks of the season, the Giants have dropped every game since their Week 5 win against the Seattle Seahawks.

It’s been another season of horrors so far, with many already looking toward the draft. The Giants currently have the no. 2 overall, behind only the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Head coach Brian Daboll and the rest of the coaching staff are trying to hold the locker room together right now as they face an uphill battle to win again this year.

With the Giants shut down for the remainder of the bye, let’s take a look at whose stock has risen and fallen over the past ten games.

Stats: 8 GP, 61 receptions, 607 yards, three touchdowns

The electric rookie has already made his mark. Despite missing two games with a concussion, Nabers’ 607 yards is tied for most among beginners (with college teammate Brian Thomas, Jr., now with Jacksonville).

It’s clear the Giants have found their No. 1 option for the future, and he’ll thrive even more once the team improves the quarterback position.

Statistics: 10 GP, 2,070 passing yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions

This is an obvious choice because Jones has shown nothing to justify being the Giants’ quarterback, let alone this season.

He has shown flashes, but sixth year flashes are nowhere near enough. Jones displayed several issues throughout the season, either missing open receivers or not getting the ball out of his hands in time.

At this point, he barely looks like an entry-level NFL quarterback. Last week’s loss proved that, as Jones couldn’t take advantage of a terrible Carolina Panthers defense.

He threw two interceptions, both in the red zone. It was a performance that Giants fans have grown numb to over the past six years.

New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II

Statistics: 10 GP, 38 tackles, eight tackles for loss, nine sacks, 15 quarterback hits

Lawrence’s dominance is still on display as he has proven to be the best tackle in the league. He is currently second in the league in sacks behind only Trey Henderson of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lawrence has been a force inside the past three seasons and nothing has changed as he poses nightmares for opposing offensive lines.

Statistics: 37 tackles, six passes defensed, six touches allowed

The Giants entered this season hoping Banks could become their No. 1 corner. It hasn’t worked so far because it has become a liability on defense.

The former 2023 first-rounder has struggled to keep up with the league’s best wide receivers all season. The more obvious problem was Banks’ lack of effort on certain plays, such as CeeDee Lamb’s touchdown in Week 4 and Jalen Hurts’ run in Week 7. Banks slowed down in both games, and many expressed their frustrations in due to lack of effort.

He was benched midway through the Giants’ loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8 despite preventing a touchdown early in the game. The Giants aren’t giving up on him just yet, but they need to come together and show why he was worthy of a first-round draft pick.

New York Giants linebacker Brian Burns

Statistics: 46 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, six sacks, seven passes defensed

The Giants made a successful offseason trade for Burns, who is having a very solid first year with the team. He lost teammate Kayvon Thibodeaux for four games to a wrist injury, but Azeez Ojulari stepped in nicely.

Burns has dealt with several injuries this season, including a nagging groin injury. Despite that, he gave 110% effort on every down and helped the Giants lead the league in sacks this year.

Stats: 3 GP, 3/4 FG, 2/2 XP

Gano was signed to a three-year extension before Week 1 of last year, and he didn’t quite live up to it. Much of it has been injury-related as Gano has been unable to stay healthy over the past two seasons. He injured his hamstring while trying to run first down in Week 2 and missed the next seven games.

Gano returned in Week 10 and missed a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter. It’s safe to say, it’s not getting any younger with it, and it’s not as automatic as it was in years past.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the Giants start thinking about another kicker sooner rather than later.

Statistics: 10 GP (six starts), 107 carries, 545 yards, three touchdowns, 5.1 yards per carry

Tracy overtook the starting quarterback spot from Devin Singletary and hasn’t looked back. Many viewed the fifth-round pick as a sleeper prospect before the season began to become an immediate contributor, which he is currently displaying.

Tracy has three 100-plus yard games in six starts and can break for long runs at critical times. It’s only his second year on the job, but Tracy is just starting to scratch the surface of his full potential. His vision is improving by the week and he’s starting to establish himself as the Giants’ primary ball carrier of the future.

Statistics: 9 GP, five catches, 45 yards

While he contributed four catches for 39 yards against the Panthers on Sunday, Hyatt was a major disappointment in his second season. He didn’t get many opportunities due to his lack of development as opposing defenses extinguished his one-dimensional ability (running deep).

However, he has a chance to finish the season strong. The Giants traded for him just a year ago, they won’t completely give up on him just yet.

Darius Slayton’s performance was also a major reason why Hyatt didn’t see playing time, as the veteran wideout was a solid option on the outside opposite of Nabers.

New York Giants cornerback Dru Phillips

Statistics: 9 GP, 43 tackles, six tackles for a loss, one sack, two forced fumbles

The Giants found their nickel cornerback in years to come with Phillips, who has stood out so far in his rookie year.

He was also solid in coverage, allowing just one touchdown. Phillips proved to be a physical threat near the line of scrimmage. His best performance came in Week 2 where he had 12 tackles, two for a loss and a sack against the Commanders.

Statistics: 9 GP, 43 tackles, three tackles for a loss, three sacks, one pass defended

Pinnock was a solid safety last season when paired with Xavier McKinney. Now that McKinney is gone, he’s been a liability as this system’s last line of defense. He has made some nice plays in the run game, but hasn’t been able to make much of an impact this year.

The glaring issue has been missed as he already has seven in nine games, the same amount he had in all of 2023.
