In a 2015 segment on “Fox & Friends,” Hegseth threw an ax at a target while members of the West Point Hellcats marching band played behind her.

He missed the target completely and hit drummer Jeff Prosperie in an incident that it went viral at the timebut it’s getting new attention in light of Hegseth’s selection for secretary of defense:

Prosperie said at the time that he was not hit by the blade, but suffered a few cuts on his wrist.

“It could have been much worse or fatal,” he wrote Facebookand said it was the result of “obvious negligence”.

“When you shoot or throw, you always know what’s behind the target,” he wrote.

Prosperity later sued over the incident. It is unclear if the case was ever solved.
