Michelle Troconis to appear in court on contempt of court charge – NBC Connecticut

Michelle Troconis will be in Stamford court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing on a contempt of court charge that was filed during her trial in connection with the disappearance and alleged murder of Jennifer Dulos.

Jennifer Dulos, a mother of five who lived in New Canaan, disappeared on May 24, 2019, amid a bitter divorce and custody battle with her then-estranged husband, Fotis Dulos. She is presumed dead and her body has never been found.

Michelle Troconis was dating Fotis Dulos when Jennifer disappeared.

In June 2019, Fotis Dulos and Michelle Troconis were indicted with tampering or fabricating physical evidence and hindering prosecution in the first degree.

On January 7, 2020, state police charged Fotis Dulos with murder, murder and kidnapping and charged Troconis with conspiracy to commit murder. Both have denied the allegations.

Three weeks later, Fotis died after trying to take his own life, according to police.

Troconis’ trial began in January of this year and a jury found her guilty on March 1.

She is now serving a 14 1/2 year sentence after a jury found her guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, tampering with physical evidence, hindering prosecution and additional charges.

She was held in contempt of court during the February trial after she allegedly showed a sealed custody report related to the Dulos divorce case on her laptop.

Troconis’ attorney said he is seeking clarification on the allegations and expects the state to file a response.

Troconis pleaded not guilty to the contempt charge.

She also filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that her first attorney, Andrew Bowman, made numerous attorney failures, including failing to consider the pros and cons of talking to the police about Jennifer’s disappearance and alleging that he did not try to understand the events. around May 24, 2019, the day Jennifer went missing, along with her relationship with Fotis at the time.

Troconis also claims that Bowman told her that Chief State’s Attorney Richard Colangelo threatened her that if she didn’t talk to the police, she would be charged as an accessory to murder and would never see her child again, among other statements.

In a brief phone conversation in September, attorney Bowman said he could not discuss the merits of the habeas claims because it would violate the attorney-client privilege.

“I absolutely deny the allegations that are made in that habeas petition,” he said.

No decision has yet been made in this regard.

Troconis spoke about the case in a letter he wrote in July while he was in York Correctional Facility to NBC Connecticut’s Shannon Miller.

The four-page letter details in part how Troconis claims Fotis Dulos defrauded her and other people who were part of his divorce and custody case. It also addresses what is at the heart of the criminal contempt case — the sealed custody study report involving Fotis and his estranged wife, which investigators said Troconis illegally displayed on her laptop during her criminal trial.
