How to import Chrome OS passwords into Proton Pass

Start by exporting your passwords from your Chrome browser

You can access your Proton Pass account from the web portal in your browser or using the Chrome extension. Both require basically the same process. You can’t use extensions on Chrome for Android, so if you use a Android tablet or phone, you’ll work through the web portal because the Android app doesn’t allow importing.

We cover the steps of the Chrome OS browser as it allows extensions. The graphical interface of the Chrome browser for Android looks a little different, but the export process is identical.

  1. Open Chrome settings menu (the three vertical dots in the upper right corner).

  2. Go to the left sidebar, click Autofill and passwordsthen select Google Password Manager on the next screen.

  3. Click on Download the file the button next to it Export passwords section.

  4. Decide where to save the file, then click Save.

  5. Log in to Proton Pass in your web browser and select Import passwords option on the main vault screen.

  6. Alternatively, you can access Import passwords option by extension if installed.

  7. Select Chrome option from the list of supported password managers on the next screen.

  8. On the next screen, click Choose a file or drag it here.

  9. Navigate to where you saved the exported file and click Open.

  10. The data to be imported is shown on the next screen. Click Import.

  11. In the next dialog box, click Confirm.
