Bike technician ‘left for dead’ after being attacked by ‘Rottweiler’ in woods – before his callous owner fled as he lay on the floor screaming in pain

A bike technician was ‘left for dead’ bleeding in the woods after being viciously attacked by a Rottweiler dog, with the heartless owner fleeing the scene.

Nick Evans was left screaming in agony after the muzzleless pet broke free from his owners’ grip, ripping out pieces of his hip, leg, hand and wrist.

The 31-year-old bike technician was maintaining a bike path, as he had done for the past 13 years, when the animal unexpectedly pounced on him as he backed away.

Following the ordeal on private land in Sevenoaks, Kent, he has lost feeling in one of his hands and suffered serious injuries that have left him unable to cook, shower or dress independently.

Now Mr Evans is keen to track down the woman who ran her dog over a barbed wire fence, claiming it was left to bleed to death on the ground.

Police are currently investigating the incident on October 30, which took place in the Knockholt area.

“I maintain a cycle track there and have full permission from the landowners to do so,” explained Nick.

“I was there doing some maintenance and a lady walked by with a Rottweiler dog that didn’t have a muzzle and didn’t realize I was there.

“I came up to say hello and the dog got out of her grip, it just had a bit of a lead.

“He was sniffing around me and I asked if he was safe and she told me not to touch him.”

He claimed that as he “leaned against a tree”, the dog jumped and sank its teeth into him, ripping chunks out of his hip, leg and wrist.

“I was on the floor with the dog on top of me, screaming at him and she was sitting there,” he said.

The dog’s owner eventually managed to restrain the animal, telling Mr Evans to get away before escaping with the dog over a small wire fence, leaving the bike technician bleeding on the floor.

His partner Romi Kite was looking after some horses in a nearby stable and rushed in after hearing screams.

Mr Evans says the severity of his injuries left him without feeling in one of his hands and unable to work, dress or cook for himself.

Mr Evans says the severity of his injuries left him without feeling in one of his hands and unable to work, dress or cook for himself.

She said: “The woman left him to bleed out in the woods and left him almost dead.”

Mr Evans managed to get up and the pair tried to follow the dog’s owner as she ran off into the wilderness.

He claimed: “I was begging her for her details and she told me to get off, then threatened to set the dog on me if I didn’t leave her alone.

“At this point, we were bleeding so much we had to go to the hospital.”

Mr Evans went to A&E at the Princess Royal University Hospital in Orpington and ended up being rushed due to the severity of his injuries.

The next morning he was sent to the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead for plastic surgery.

“I suffered nerve damage in my right wrist and underwent surgery. I lost all feeling in my hand,’ he said.

“Doctors said the feeling will come back, but there is a chance it will be permanent damage.

“The cut was quite deep, his jaws went through me on two sides of my wrist. It was quite traumatic.

Mr Evans, who lives in Sidcup, was a technician at a bike shop but has been left unable to work and is currently unable to shower, cook or dress himself.

“All my hobbies involve tools. I’m a car mechanic and restore classic cars as a hobby, so I can’t do any of that,’ he revealed.

Doctors said healing time should be about three months, but it could take up to a year to get full sensation back.

Despite the traumatic nature of his injuries, Mr Evans was grateful there were no children in the area at the time of the attack, explaining that several children are on the farm because of the landowner’s fostering agency.

“They had a Halloween scavenger hunt that week, so there were 20 kids and 15 adults walking through the same woods where I was attacked,” he added.

“It could have been catastrophic.” If it had been one of them, it probably would have been much worse.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police were called just before 4.15pm on Wednesday 30 October 2024 to a report that a man had been bitten by a dog near Burlings Lane in Knockholt, Sevenoaks.

“The victim, a 30-year-old man, required hospital treatment for his injuries. Investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mr Evans said the dog’s owner was white and aged between 45 and 60, with blond hair and a medium build, about 5ft 6in.

The dog appeared to be a Rottweiler, but he says it was probably mixed with another breed.

He added: “I have spoken to the landowners and they want to press charges against her because she was trespassing on their land.

“We have also spoken to a neighbor who may have CCTV so hopefully we can get some footage of the woman and the police will be able to find her.”
