A human head has been found washed up on a beach in Florida, according to police.

A worker raking the beach at Key Biscayne, Miamiwould have made the discovery around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said an investigation was launched after the section of beach where the head was found was sealed off.

Reports said the head appeared to have come from a man, but no information was confirmed by officers.

Police said they were working on “several” theories about the death, Sky News partner network NBC News reported.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin said no other human remains were found, adding, “We have not been able to determine exactly how the head was separated from the body, but there are some working theories.”

Police said the discovery was made on a part of a beach located near the apartments.
