A bus carrying people to a wedding plunged into a river in Pakistan. Sixteen people have died and another 10 are missing. Only the bride has been saved alive so far.

The accident happened on Tuesday in Astore, a city in the north. Local authorities say there were 27 people on board the bus, which was heading to Punjab province.

They say initial investigations suggest the driver was speeding and lost control before the vehicle plunged into the Indus River.

Reports say the bride is receiving treatment at the hospital.

Many roads in rural areas of Pakistan are in poor condition and fatal accidents are common.

Two bus accidents in August killed more than 30 people.
