Medicare Advantage at Martin’s Point has the advantage of additional benefits

Aging has its advantages. Many of today’s boomers (and by 2030, Generation X) are still employed, staying fit, maybe giggling at a TikTok clip, and showing no signs of slowing down.

They also take advantage of deals for their residents, including discounted museum and movie tickets, state park entrance fees, discount days at grocery stores, special restaurant menus and travel incentives.

So why wouldn’t any savvy senior look for a deal when it comes to a Medicare plan? That’s why so many turn to Medicare Advantage, also known as Medicare Part C. But if you’re looking for that deal, you might be looking for more than a few options. Eligible Maine residents can choose from 55 different Medicare Advantage plans this year, depending on their county. With annual Medicare enrollment closing on December 7, now is the time to start researching.

A quick review of Medicare A, B, C and Ds

For those who need a quick rundown of the basics of Medicare, here’s a very simple version:

Original Medicare includes Parts A and B.

• Part A provides hospitalization/patient coverage
• Part B provides outpatient/medical coverage
• Part C, also called Medicare Advantage, provides an alternative way to receive original Medicare coverage and often includes additional benefits. Some of these plans also cover Part D prescription drugs.
• Part D provides prescription drug coverage (if you want this coverage, you must purchase a separate Part D plan if you do not get this coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan.)

Then there is Medicare supplemental insurance. These are private policy options that can be purchased to fill in the gaps (deductibles, coinsurance, etc.) in Original Medicare. Supplemental plans do not cover items/services not included in Original Medicare, such as dental, vision, hearing, etc.

Part C, often called Medicare Advantage, it includes Parts A and B (and frequently includes Part D). These plans often come with additional benefits such as dental, vision, hearing and wellness allowances. Some Medicare Advantage plans are offered without an additional plan premium beyond the Part B and Part D premiums you would pay under Original Medicare.

Streamline, save money and get the extra coverage you need

So what is the advantage of a Medicare Advantage plan over original Medicare? First, you have an all-in-one service point, giving you a gift from time to time not managing multiple policies.

Further, many Medicare Advantage plans offer benefits not covered by Original Medicare, including but not limited to dental, vision, hearing, health, and more.

In addition to Part D prescription drug benefits being included in the plan itself, the extras of Martin’s Point Generations Advantage plans include full dental, vision and glasses allowances, hearing aid discounts and a flexible health allowance for to buy things like approved fitness equipment, gym memberships, ski passes and equipment, sports club fees, wellness services and more. Members also receive a quarterly over-the-counter allowance for health and wellness items from CVS. Visit MartinsPoint.org to learn more about the extras included in Generations Advantage plans.
