The Las Vegas elementary school has been attacked multiple times by thieves, records show

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Thieves hit John S. Park hard on June 13.

A Clark County School District police officer was called there in reference to a possible theft of copper wire. A CCSD police report indicates seven air conditioning units were stripped of all parts, with damage estimated at $75,000.

Then on July 20, while contractors were taking measurements to repair the June damage, a staff member was told only seven units were damaged, but the number turned out to be nine.

School officials then suspected two other units had been damaged recently.

A police report says the staff member looked at security cameras and saw the offenders at the school early that morning. The report says he saw three people, one of them “walking across the canopy of the building.”

The report also said that “items were thrown from rooftop air conditioning units onto the playground.” Three people were seen collecting the items and carrying them into a shopping trolley.

Then, just six days later, another CCSD police report indicates that a custodian heard a loud crash around 5:25 a.m. and saw a man and woman near the parking lot and saw “some air conditioning parts from a cart that had collapsed.”

He said while the woman was on the phone, she turned and looked at him and they both left.

On July 30, another theft was reported overnight at John S. Park Elementary with three AC units damaged. A police report says AC parts were found on the ground.

The next day, a CCSD police report indicates that an office manager told police, “this was the sixth time someone destroyed and stole parts from the AC units.”

She also said that “the roof can be easily accessed due to the structure of the school which is low to the ground”.

In the same report, an officer mentioned extra patrols from 3am to 6am

A school office manager estimated the damage at $120,000 and told police about similar crimes at some businesses.

Police reports also describe some of the people involved as between the ages of 18 and 30.

School officials, in a report, said the suspects were apparently stealing cooling cores from AC units.

No suspects were identified in any reports.
