The high school football playoff game has been postponed due to wildfires in North Jersey

Tuesday’s boys soccer semifinal game between Ramapo and Morris Knolls was postponed until Wednesday because of poor air quality in the area as a result of nearby wildfires.

It’s the second time Ramapo has had to reschedule a playoff game in the last week. The Raiders played their sectional quarterfinal game against Tenafly on Sunday instead of Saturday as originally scheduled for the same reason. They won 4-0.

Franklin Lakes Campus in Ramapo is less than 20 miles from The Jennings Creek Fire that burned over 5,000 acres of land in New Jersey and New York. The fire was 30 percent contained as of Tuesday evening.

Historically dry weather and strong gusts of wind pose “significant challenges” for crews fighting the fire, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Ramapo won the Bergen County championship last month and is looking for its first sectional championship since 2016.

The Raiders are the No. 1 seed. 1 in North 1, Pool 3. Their semifinal opponent, Morris Knolls, is the No. 13 seed. The winner of Wednesday night’s game will face No. 7 seed Randolph in the sectional final.
