Roseville man charged in fatal Detroit crash involving children

Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged Ahmad Nyjahjuan Jatta, 30, of Roseville, in connection with a car crash that killed a 7-year-old boy and injured a 5-year-old girl, a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. year old woman from all over detroit.

On November 9, 2024, at 4:38 p.m., Detroit Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of East 7 Mile Road and Mound Road for a reported motor vehicle accident.

Upon their arrival, officers found the 7-year-old victim unresponsive lying next to the vehicle.

Doctors arrived at the scene and declared the 7-year-old victim dead.

The remaining victims were transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment.

Jatta was allegedly driving intoxicated westbound on East 7 Mile Road at a high rate of speed when he struck the victims’ vehicle, fatally injuring the 7-year-old victim, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Jatta was charged with one count of operating while intoxicated causing death and three counts of operating while intoxicated causing serious injury.

The 30-year-old was arraigned Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, in the afternoon at the 36th District Court and was granted a $500,000 cash/surety bond.

A bond redetermination hearing is scheduled for November 14, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for November 25, 2024 at 8:30 a.m. and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2024 at 8:45 a.m.
