Person struck, killed by MAX train in East Portland

PORTLAND Hours. (KPTV) – One person was struck and killed by a MAX train near East 148th Avenue around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to FOX 12 that the person killed was a construction worker working on a project near the tracks and that the death was accidental.

“For some reason, which we do not know at this time, but we are investigating, this individual entered the tracks and was struck by the train,” a TriMet representative said. “The operator stopped the train as fast as he could.”

The MAX Blue Line was disrupted due to the crash, and shuttle buses serving stations between Gateway and Northeast 99th Avenue were delayed.

By around 5:30 p.m., the scene was cleared and trains and roads around the accident were back in service.
