The young man was confirmed safe after an Amber Alert was issued, the kidnapper was killed

A 7-year-old girl has been confirmed safe after an Amber Alert was issued Monday night.

Oaklynn Alexander was last seen in Empire.

The kidnapping suspect was Charles Alexander, 43, Oaklynn’s father.

According to the Ohio Amber Alert, Alexander was located in Brunswick, Ohio. Around 8 p.m., Brunswick police located Alexander and initiated an unsuccessful traffic stop.

Several officers followed the vehicle south on Interstate 71 toward Medina. During the pursuit, stop sticks were triggered, causing the vehicle to become disabled.

Police say the vehicle continued south onto State Route 18 in Medina Township and stopped in a business parking lot where law enforcement attempted to negotiate with Alexander, who was armed.

According to the police, Alexandru communicated by phone with several dispatch centers. Several shots were fired.

“Not the custodial parent,” said Capt. Eric Bors of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. “He had no right to have it. He was threatening to harm both himself and the child.

“Eventually an OSHP trooper fired a shot and Mr. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Bors confirms that no officers were injured during the incident.
