Amber Alert for 7-year-old girl ends with suspect dead after Ohio police chase

UPDATE (7am Tuesday morning):

An Amber Alert for a 7-year-old girl ended with the suspect, her non-custodial father, shot and killed following a police chase and shooting on I-71 near Medina, Ohio.

The Brunswick Division of Police said Tuesday that Charles Ryan Alexander, the girl’s father, failed to stop for police, prompting a pursuit.

Officers deployed stop sticks, successfully stopping Alexander’s vehicle in a business parking lot.

Police said Alexander was armed and negotiations were attempted. However, a shootout ensued, resulting in officers shooting Alexander. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The girl was safely recovered and returned to her family without any injuries, police said. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the incident.

ORIGINAL REPORT (Monday evening):

An AMBER Alert has been canceled for a 7-year-old girl taken by her father without custody in Jefferson County.

According to the alert, Charles Alexander, 43, took Oaklynn Alexander, 7, after an altercation at a family member’s home.

Law enforcement found an unoccupied gray F150 he was believed to be in before getting into a 26-foot Ford F-650 U-Haul with AZ plate number AL74169. Charles may still use U-Haul.

An updated alert said the girl had been found, but the father was at large.
