TXDOT and DPS are working together to “End the Steak,” to end deaths on Texas roads

Every day for the past 24 years, someone has died on a Texas road.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) have been working together since November 7, 2000 to end this deadly streak. It was the last day that someone didn’t die on the road.

TXDOT reports that 4,289 people were killed on Texas roads last year, and so far in 2024, Texas is averaging 10 road deaths per day.

TXDOT and DPS encourage drivers to drive the speed limit, fasten their seat belts at all times, pull over or slow down, drive sober, and avoid distractions such as having a cell phone or texting .

Since November 7, 2000, more than 87,000 people have been killed on Texas roads.
