CNN’s Kate Bolduan breaks down the rape-evoking slogan amid Trump’s victory

CNN anchor Kate Bolduan she couldn’t contain her disgust as she reported on the harassment of women with a rape-evoking expression, linking it to the president-elect. of Donald Trump victory over the vice president Kamala Harris.

One of the most amazing features of the Trump’s victory it is group table with which he made gains—including women. That’s even with abortion rights ballot measures ACCOMPLISHED majority support in 8 of 10 states (Florida’s measure failed even though 57% voted because the threshold was 60%).

According to one report by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, Trump’s victory coincided with the spread of “hate and harassment of women.”

On Tuesday edition of CNN News CentralBolduan and CNN Clare Duffy introduced that report and the phrase “Your body, my choice,” which was proliferated in a viral white nationalist tweet. Nick Fuenteswho, in particular, declared before election day that he would not vote for Trump:

KATE BOLDUAN: Since Election Day. It has become clear that attacks on women on social media have just increased. Sexist, gross and honest, just stupidly offensive.

Guys who would like to pretend to be real men, but instead are very clearly intimidated by women pushing phrases like “Your body. My choice.”

It gets millions of views. CNN’s Clare Duffy is here with more on that. How bad does this get, Clare?

CLARE DUFFY: Yes, it is very significant. These are characters and this is the kind of language that has existed in the dark corners of the internet. But it’s become clear that these people feel emboldened by this election where there has been so much focus on women’s rights, on women’s bodily autonomy.

This really started on Tuesday night when white nationalist Nick Fuentes tweeted, posted on X this post that said, “Your body, my choice. Forever.”

As you can see, there are 90 million views.

And since then, according to this analysis by a nonprofit human rights group, mentions of that phrase on X have increased by 4,000% in just a few days.

But they’ve also seen increases in the use of phrases like “Get back in the kitchen” and are calling for the repeal of the 19th Amendment, which of course gave women the right to vote.

And it’s all part of this growth of what researchers call the man-sphere, these misogynistic online communities where the discussion ranges from anti-feminism to these more explicit calls for violence against women.

And there are already women who are targeted by it. You’ve seen TikTok videos posted by women who said “your body, my choice” appear in their comments and in their DMS.

And I’m telling you, Kate, when I woke up this morning after writing this story yesterday, I had this phrase in my inbox. And I think the researchers’ concern is that this online rhetoric will translate into offline harassment and abuse.

KATE BOLDUAN: Yes. There isn’t, it’s not a big step. We’ve seen, you know, the not too distant past to see what online rhetoric, how it can translate into real life, real issues.

I mean, it’s dumb, stupid, and idiotic on the most basic level, but it’s also dangerous, and it’s mostly spread on Twitter now, X.

Is there any… is… has Elon Musk said anything about this? Any chance you know what Elon Musk is going to do about it?

CLARE DUFFY: Yeah, the company hasn’t said anything about this latest increase, but I think we have to look at the changes they’ve made to the platform.

He withdrew moderation in other areas. We’ve seen increases in other types of hate speech, in conspiracy theories, some of which come from Elon Musk himself.

And the company’s harassment policy only regulates harassment against certain individuals. So this kind of broad abuse of women doesn’t even violate company policies.

KATE BOLDUAN: Great!
