A 51-year-old Oxnard woman died in a single-vehicle crash outside of Ventura Monday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. near Northbank Drive and Elba Street, near agricultural fields just outside the city limits. The crossing is east of Johnson Drive, north of the Santa Clara River.

The woman’s 11-year-old granddaughter, who was a passenger in the 2019 Mazda CX-3, made the 911 call, CHP Officer Ryan Ayala said. The girl had no visible injuries and her family was contacted to pick her up, he said.

The car had crashed into a stationary farm ramp, Ayala said. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.

Family members told CHP officers the woman had known medical issues that may have contributed to the crash, Ayala said.

The Ventura Police Department assisted at the scene. It has been determined that the accident site is within CHP jurisdiction.

The CHP’s Ventura Area Office is investigating.
