More details about what happened in the fatal rollover on Main Street North have been released by the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).

On Friday, at approximately 12:33 p.m., SIRT was notified by the Moose Jaw Police Service of a police-involved accident. The Civilian Executive Director of SIRT accepted the notice and conducted an investigation.

According to SIRT, MJPS received a call around 11:42 pm on Friday about a silver Honda driving erratically and following the caller’s vehicle. The caller told police there had been a previous physical altercation.

At approximately 11:47 p.m., an MJPS member saw the vehicle heading north on Main Street at a high rate of speed.

The officer followed the vehicle with sirens activated at 11:48 p.m. and radioed that the Honda had crashed.

EMS was called to the scene and one of the occupants of the vehicle, a 31-year-old male, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a second passenger were transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

The SIRT team, consisting of the civilian executive director and six SIRT investigators, will review the actions of the police during the incident. MJPS will remain responsible for investigating the driver’s actions.

No other information is being released at this time. A final report will be issued to the public within 90 days of the conclusion of the investigation.
