What is contained in the medical scheme of new civil servants?

The administration of President William Ruto proposed a new medical scheme which will provide additional coverage to public offerings alongside SHIF.

If passed, the Public Financial Management (Civil Servants Medical Scheme Fund) Regulations, 2024 will provide civil servants with additional cover once SHIF limits are exhausted.

CS Treasury John Mbadi invited Kenyans to public participation on the bill on Wednesday, November 20, 2024

“National Treasury and Economic Planning invites the public to submit any comments, contributions or memoranda they may have on the draft Public Finance Management (Public Servants Medical Scheme Fund) Regulations, 2024 in the format provided on the website” , Mbadi said.

Public opinions and comments should be emailed and received by November 18, 2024 at 5:00 pm

There will be an in-person public consultation meeting with interested parties scheduled for the same date.

SHIF benefit limit for Kenya

Medical Services Principal Secretary (PS) Harry Kimtai emphasized that every Kenyan will receive equal SHIF benefits regardless of contribution.

Kimtai said Kenyans who contribute more and feel the benefits are low should pay for private insurance.

The government official denied claims that the new scheme was rushed, arguing that the system had been developed for some time.
