Mattel apologizes for accidentally linking Wicked dolls to porn site

Mattel issued a statement after a misprint on its packaging River dolls directed fans to a porn site.

Those who purchased the likenesses of the toy company characters included Cynthia Erivoof Elphaba and Ariana GrandeGlinda got more than they bargained for due to a tagging mishap.

The website listed on the toy box was supposed to link to the website for the Universal Pictures musical adaptation, WickedMovie.com, but was instead printed as Wicked.com – the URL of an adult content website.

Responding to the incident, Mattel said it was taking immediate steps to fix the mistake, the products could be recalled.

“Mattel has been informed of a printing error on Mattel’s packaging River collectible dolls, primarily sold in the US, with the purpose of directing consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page. We deeply regret this unfortunate error and are taking immediate steps to fix it,” a company spokesperson said. Variety.

“Parents are advised that the wrong, incorrect website is not suitable for children,” the message continued.

“Consumers who already have the product are advised to discard the product packaging or hide the link and may contact Mattel Customer Service for additional information.”

As for the erroneous web address, the link to the Wicked Pictures website includes an “about” section, identifying the pornographic studio — who’s behind the plates like Black Widow XXX and Captain Marvel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody — as a leading company in the production of “quality parody porn films”.

“Established in Canoga Park, California on March 1, 1993, Wicked Pictures was founded with a firm commitment to producing quality parody porn films, a decision the company has held true to since its inception,” it said, adding that the studio continues to “diversify and expand its commitment to quality cinematic content.”

Meanwhile, buyers who bought River toy dolls with the infamous printing error took to Twitter/X to share their bewilderment alongside screenshots of the incriminating boxes.

“I was just informed that my official Mattel WICKED dolls have a porn site printed on them…is that true! WTF?!!” one person wrote, while another noted: “Hey @Mattel whoever is in charge of your marketing/packaging for the new official Wicked dolls made a HUGE mistake!”

Meanwhile, the current River film it was met with laudatory reactions ahead of its November 22 release, the few who have seen the first film calling it a “masterpiece”.

River will be released in theaters on November 22.
