Guam now in COR 3 as Tropical Storm Man-yi approaches, residents urged to prepare | News

Guam is now in Preparedness 3 and COR 2 is expected to be declared at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Guam Offices of Homeland Security and Civil Defense.

Residents are being urged to prepare as Tropical Storm Man-yi heads toward the Marianas and is expected to make landfall early Wednesday morning.

Acting Governor Josh Tenorio and Joint Marianas Region Commander Rear Admiral Brent De Vore placed Guam and its military bases in COR 3 at noon Tuesday.

At COR 3, damaging winds of 39-57 miles per hour are expected within 48 hours.

The Government of Guam remains open at COR 3.

COR 2 is forecast for Tuesday at 18.00. At COR 2, schools and non-essential government offices will be closed.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, Tropical Storm Man-Yi was 300 miles east of Guam, moving west-southwest toward Guam at 8 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.

The National Weather Service said Man-yi currently has sustained winds of 45 mph and is expected to intensify into a tropical storm at 60 mph as it moves near Guam Wednesday afternoon and night.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect for Saipan and Tinian.

A northward shift of the forecast track would move tropical storm winds closer to Saipan and Tinian.

Those over the Marianas should continue to monitor the forecast as changes could significantly alter the impacts felt, the NWS said.

Guam still has an active tropical storm warning, a small craft warning and a current break statement in effect.

Now is the time to prepare for severe tropical storm conditions according to your plan. of typhoon disasters specific to your home or business, GHS/OCD said.

It’s important to actively listen for future information from the National Weather Service office in Guam and the emergency management agency, the agencies added.
