Customers still being charged for temporarily closed Springfield car wash

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Customers tell On Your Side they’re still being charged for a monthly subscription at a car wash that appears to be closed.

KY3’s On Your Side has options for those people who keep getting scammed. Since mid-October, On Your Side has been trying to get answers from McBee’s Coffee N’ Carwash customers.

After several emails, calls and a Facebook message, I got some answers.

“Everybody in the car goes and gets free drinks,” said customer Kimberly Wilson. “The free vacuum cleaners. Sounds like a good deal.”

Wilson and her two dogs were regulars at the West Kearney Street location. A membership fee was taken out of her account on Oct. 2, but she tells On Your Side she didn’t receive a single wash last month.

Every time he stopped, it looked like the place was closed. KY3 didn’t see anyone there on Monday.

“My husband said, why didn’t they mow their lawn? It’s like a foot tall,” Wilson said.

She and other customers tell On Your Side they’ve tried to get a refund, but haven’t been able to get hold of anyone.

“I tried calling the one in Springfield. I tried calling the one in Liberty. I emailed the website,” Wilson said.

Since Wilson couldn’t reach anyone, she withdrew money from her account. On October 30, she received a text from McBee saying her card had been declined.

The website says to cancel a subscription, visit the nearest location.

“A lot of trouble for something that should be able to be canceled online or at least with a phone call,” Wilson said.

On Your Side began asking questions on October 22; I sent several emails, called a few numbers and messaged on Facebook. On Your Side received this statement Monday afternoon through the company’s attorney. It says in part:

We’ve decided to repurpose the Springfield location…with a new business set to open in the next six months. All active McBee’s Coffee N Carwash LLC Springfield memberships were proactively canceled one month prior to our closing and recurring charges stopped.

On Your Side asked when did the business close? We were told on October 4.

If the subscriptions were canceled a month in advance, that means Wilson shouldn’t have been charged on October 2nd.

“If only they would give us our money back for October. That’s all I want. I’m going to another car wash. One that has been around for a while,” Wilson said.

The statement continued with: If any member experiences a billing issue, we are committed to resolving it quickly. Customers are welcome to contact us directly via email at [email protected] and we will prioritize any refunds required.

Aggrieved customers can file complaints at Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of Missouri.

By the way, this company has an “F” rating with the BBB.

You can always talk to your credit card company to see if you can dispute the charge and block a recurring charge.

One customer told On Your Side that his credit card offers the option to block a recurring charge. So he managed to avoid the November charge.
