BTC hosts a health and safety expo for team members | Lifestyles

BTC demonstrated the company’s commitment to workplace health and safety through a health and safety exhibition for its employees in New Providence and Grand Bahama.

Led by BTC’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team, the aim was to educate colleagues about the potential risks and safety measures in their working environment and drive home the importance of adopting a healthier lifestyle.

K. Darron Turnquest, BTC’s Chief People Officer, emphasized the importance of the event in raising awareness of workplace hazards and proper handling procedures. Daryll Lewis, Health and Safety Manager for Liberty Latin America (LLA) emphasized that the exhibition reinforced BTC’s health and safety standards and practices.

“This exhibition brings greater awareness to the risks our employees may face in the workplace and how to manage them,” said Turnquest. “This was an opportunity to educate them about the importance of putting health and safety at the forefront of their working day. As we go about our daily lives, we tend to overlook things that can have a significant impact on our livelihood, so we think events like this are important.”

Feedback from employees was positive. Hendrea Pinder, a senior associate, said the Grand Bahama event provided insightful content and team building. Najah Finalyson, BTC’s managing director of publications praised the company’s obvious concern for employee welfare.

“Not only has it equipped my fellow team members with essential health and safety knowledge, but it has also fostered a sense of community and personal well-being,” said Pinder. “Events like these remind us of BTC’s commitment to creating a safer and healthier workplace for everyone.”

Finlayson said she was amazed at how much planning went into this exhibit.

“It’s really an extensive demonstration of how much BTC cares about its employees and how much they want the employees in the company to be well. To bring that here is a testament to how much they care about us, and that’s amazing.”

The health and safety expo in New Providence featured presentations from representatives of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Road Traffic Department, Bahamas Red Cross, Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group and Doctors Hospital, which focused on fire prevention, safe driving techniques, hurricane preparedness, wellness checks, and breast cancer awareness. The Grand Bahama BTC team received advice on breast cancer awareness, mental health strategies, nutrition, the importance of regular exercise and fire safety protocols.
