Tuskegee University replaces security chief, closes campus after homecoming mass shooting

Tuskegee University has replaced its security chief and instituted a new policy requiring identification for entry and to be worn on campus at all times, the university announced after the early Sunday morning shooting that left one dead and 16 others injured.

Tuskegee President and CEO Dr. Mark A. Brown said Monday the university is making changes to protect students.

“Tuskegee University is no longer an open campus,” Brown said.

“Effective immediately, we are requiring ID cards for everyone to be shown to enter campus and to be worn at all times on campus, like the one you see me wearing today.

“This morning, we hired a new head of campus security and relieved our former head of security of his duties.

“Our new Head of Campus Security and ultimately his team will complete a full review, including all implementations of the new security procedures.”
