The massive failure of electric vehicle ownership is flagged by Australians

A driver has sparked criticism for charging his electric vehicle on the street by running the charging cable through a stormwater pipe.

2GB host Ray Hadley shared a photo of the car on Monday morning and described it as “the most remarkable photo I think I’ve seen”.

“This is how an electric vehicle owner charges his car. He pulls the electrical cable through the storm water pipe and into the street,” Hadley told listeners Monday.

“This is priceless.

“It actually has the electric vehicle charged with the lead that goes through the storm water pipe.

“I don’t know if he knows that water and electricity don’t really mix and that it might cause him some kind of problem.”

Electric vehicle sales continue to grow in Australia, but the rapid transition from combustion engines to battery-powered cars presents some major challenges.

The availability of public charging stations was one of the biggest concerns for drivers considering whether to buy an electric vehicle, according to a Pureprofile survey of more than 2000 Australians late last year, second only to their purchase price .

The report found that local firm Chargefox installed the most electric chargers in Australia, operating more than one in three charging points, followed by Evie Networks with 23% of the market and Tesla with 10%.

Jolt and NRMA followed in fourth and fifth place, while electric car charging stations from traditional petrol retailers BP and Ampol took sixth and seventh positions as their national rollout increased.

However, US carmaker Tesla provided the most power through its electric chargers, with its Supercharger network accounting for almost half of Australia’s charging network capacity, according to the report.
