Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a lot of choices for you, especially around it seven companions. But one of the most significant happens in the last part of the game and involves the rogue dwarf Harding and the warrior Gray Warden Davrin. If you’re reading this, you’ve probably faced the consequences and are looking to see if that’s the case HAD to descend So here’s your guide to that big decision. Spoilers ahead!

In Dragon Age: The VeilguardAt the end of the game, the protagonist Rook and their crew begin a covert operation to stop the elven gods from Tearstone Island. Once there, the team splits into two groups as they make their way through the mission. Rook leads one group while you have to call between whether Davrin or Harding will lead the second team. This will remove them from your party selection for the duration of the mission and you will see them throughout the assault guiding the rest of your party and helping you from time to time. All of this culminates in a final battle with the elven god Ghilan’nainwhich almost kills Rook in his old age. However, the leader of the second team will create an opening to deliver a killing blow to the god, only to be impaled by it and left to seemingly fall to their deaths.

If you came here looking for a way to save Harding or Davrin, I’m sorry to report that it’s impossible. This is not a The mass effect 2 Moment Suicide Mission, it’s an original Mass effect The Virmire decision. Harding and Davrin’s lives are mutually exclusive, and whoever you choose to lead the team will be dead by the end of the attack…probably. When you return to the Lighthouse base, you can go into their respective rooms and examine some of their possessions. Rook will mention that there was “no sign” of him sacrificing himself for the cause, which could give BioWare the opportunity to bring each character back in a future game. But whatever Dragon Age do in the future you will lose Harding or Davrin for the rest of the gameand if you loved them you will not see the culmination of that relationship.

There is another similar decision you make between Bellara and Neve, which results in your chosen character being captured by the elven gods. To be as spoiler-friendly as possible, I’ll just say that you’ll be able to save them later in the game, but they won’t join your active party. So it’s not all bad!
