Apex Legends’ worst character dethrones Pathfinder in the meta, but not for long

Newcastle, once Apex Legends’ most underused character, actually managed to dethrone Pathfinder in the season 23 meta. However, it didn’t last that long.

As new legends are added to Apex Legends, the Battle Royale meta usually changes. However, it was hard to make a real mark at the top. For a long time, the Wraith, Pathfinder and Octane ran the show. They could not be dethroned regardless of the changes made.

Over time, their dominance has been challenged. Bangalore, Horizon, Lifeline, and even Revenant floated into the top three, but Pathfinder remained the constant. In fact, it hasn’t been dethroned for a long time, especially in the mid-range game.

However, that changed in season 23. Well, at least for a brief moment. On November 10, some players noted that Newcastle – which actually had the lowest pick rate for much of the 22nd season – taken in higher level stats.

Conformable ApexLegendStatusNewcastle jumped to the top with a pick rate of 22.7%. That was a bump over Pathfinder’s, which fell to 21.6%.

“There’s nothing more broken than a Lifeline Ult going around a wall in Newcastle with a Gibraltar Dome on top,” said one fan after seeing the change.

“His tactic needs to become destructible again and the ultimate needs to lose that stupid pillar effect that completely takes away the counter game,” added another.

However, this was a very blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. As of 11 November, Pathfinder has regained its advantage over Newcastle with a 23.2% pick rate. The assist hero dropped to a 21.9% pick rate himself.

Other fans, who have long been Newcastle mainstays, said they were worried the dominance would lead to a nerf. “My poor boy is about to get it. I hope they go back to what they did,” suggested one.
