The City of Sheboygan is investigating the cyber attacks and the ransom demand

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — The city of Sheboygan has shut down its network and asked law enforcement to investigate a cyberattack with ransom demands.

Three days ago, the city was notified of “a potential problem” with their network, according to an initial statement. On Sunday, they provided an update that said the investigation had found a breach by someone outside the government and that they had received a ransom demand.

According to the city, there is no evidence that sensitive personal information was compromised.

In the latest release, the city said it remains committed to maintaining our trust and security standards and will provide updates.

The city said phone lines remain open for residents who need assistance or access to city services. Please call the city’s main line at 920-459-4000.

Assistant City Manager Marie Foss can be reached for more information at 920-459-3287 or [email protected].
