Brooks & Dunn Update ‘Play Something Country’ Lyrics To Remove Diddy Reference: ‘DJ Played Something Sh*tty’

Eh, same thing.

No wonder everyone is trying to distance themselves from Diddy these days. The disgraced rapper and producer (formerly known as Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs) was arrested in September on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. And the allegations paint a disturbing picture of Diddy as a sexual predator who hosted lavish parties attended by a who’s who of celebrities turned “freaks” where prostitutes and young victims were allegedly sexually assaulted.

In one of the more bizarre revelations, officials allegedly found 1,000 bottles of oil and baby lube in his apartment, prompting his lawyer to issue the hilariously absurd defense that Diddy just loves … buy in bulk at Costco.

Even Costco wanted nothing to do with Diddy, however, and quickly came out and denied his lawyer’s claims, clarifying that the warehouse store it doesn’t even sell baby oil…with far fewer 1,000-bottle cases of the stuff.

Yes, he will go to jail. His lawyer clearly has nothing to save him.

Of course, all of this has led many to wonder who else was involved and how many (alleged) victims Diddy assaulted or trafficked. His name is practically up there with Jeffrey Epstein now when it comes to sexual predators, and the “Diddy List” has been a hot topic as celebrities have taken part in his vile crimes.

So it’s not surprising Brooks and Dunn I don’t want to mention him in their song.

Everyone knows the classic hit “Play Something Country” from Kix and Ronnie’s 2005 album Hillbilly Deluxe. The song became Brooks & Dunn’s twentieth and final #1 hit to date when it reached the top of the chart. Panel Hot Country Songs, and the duo recently released a new version of the song featuring Lainey Wilson for Restart II album.

And another fun fact: the song was actually written with country singer Gretchen Wilson in mind, with “Redneck Woman” and their tour mate at the time serving as the inspiration for the title character who “walked through the door like TNT.”

But there’s one line in the song that hasn’t necessarily aged very well:

“The band took a break, the DJ played P. Diddy”

Yeah, there’s no DJ playing P. Diddy these days.

Well, Brooks & Dunn came up with a solid solution for the line during a recent live show in Arizona. And they didn’t change the meaning of the line at all:

“The band took a break, the DJ played some shit”

@jamiethisyoujeffries Just when I thought I couldn’t love #brooksanddunn more… they go and give Diddler a big FU. #playsomethingcountry #America #Diddy #diddlersdailynews #countrymusicfans @Jordan Cook ♬ original sound – Jamie Jeffries

Yes, it’s pretty much the same thing.

The band kept the same original line on the new version of the track they released with Lainey, but I’m guessing one was recorded long before Diddy’s recent legal troubles began.

Probably a smart move anyway. Nobody wants to be associated with Diddy these days, and the new line even has a double meaning given what we now know about Diddy as a person. It doesn’t get much shittier than what he did.
