A disgraced lawyer who was jailed for life after plotting to frame her ex-boyfriend on false charges of rape, kidnapping and stabbing has been freed after serving less than four years behind bars .

Anisah Ahmed, 37, was jailed for life after she staged her own kidnapping and stabbing in a “comprehensive and orchestrated” campaign of revenge against fellow lawyer Iqbal Mohammed, 41 , after finding out he had a wife.

She became the first person to receive life for perverting the course of justice in April 2021, but her sentence was overturned by the Court of Appeal seven months later, which changed her prison sentence to 10 years.

Now, in a devastating blow to her victim, Ahmed, from Oxford, has been released from prison after spending less than four years behind bars. She is under house arrest, which means she must wear an electronic tag and is restricted in the hours she can leave the house.

Mr Mohammed, from Birmingham, was informed of the update by Sun.of which he said: “I can’t believe no one bothered to tell me this before. It’s unbelievable. I was left completely in the dark.

He added: “I don’t feel safe at all. I feel we have been completely let down and it is a complete shame that this could happen.

“I’m extremely worried and I’m afraid to tell my wife because I think she’ll be really, really scared.”

Mr Mohammed previously compared his ordeal to the 1987 thriller Fatal Attraction, explaining that he was unable to watch the film because “it was exactly like what happened to me”.

In the film, Glenn Close’s character Alex stalks and terrorizes lawyer Dan, played by Michael Douglas, his wife and child after a one-night stand.

Ahmed is believed to have first contacted Mr Mohammed after watching him in the 2008 BBC series The Barristers.

He sent her her resume and asked her for career advice via email and LinkedIn, but their relationship turned flirtatious in 2013.

Ahmed and Mr Mohammed, who is still with his wife, began a nine-month relationship with him in 2014, the court previously heard.

However, it soon emerged that her lover was married and the snobbish lawyer began an elaborate campaign of revenge, described in court as “vicious” and “downright diabolical”.

The twisted plot saw the qualified barrister send intimate messages about her lover’s affair to his wife and colleagues before emailing the head of chambers demanding an investigation into his integrity.

Ahmed’s scorn took a more sinister turn when he created fake emails to back up his false claims, which made it look like they were sent by the victim threatening her, amounting to “blackmail”.

But after the emails turned out to be fake, she accused Mr Mohammed of repeatedly raping her, giving detailed and compelling accounts to investigators.

In a final, desperate attempt to frame her ex-boyfriend, Ahmed then staged his own kidnapping and stabbing – stabbing an ex-boyfriend as an accomplice – who confessed to police that he had ordered him to stab her three times.

When she refused, fearing he might accidentally kill her, Ahmed is believed to have stabbed himself – nearly severing her femoral artery with a horrific wound to his thigh.

She told police that Mr Mohammed had ordered the attack on her, later producing a forged confession from an imaginary killer.

Fortunately, her plot was foiled and Ahmed was convicted of perverting the course of justice.

Sentencing her at Oxford Crown Court, Judge Michael Gledhill previously said: “It appears that Ahmed had no idea that Mohammed was married.

“When she found out, she felt completely betrayed and took revenge by enacting a comprehensive and orchestrated plan to destroy him – both professionally and personally.”

Mr Mohammed, who the court heard killed himself during the ordeal, was publicly arrested in his solicitor’s chambers before being taken to a police station and locked in a cell for seven hours, the judge heard.

After Mr Mohammed’s chambers instructed IT experts to search the chambers’ computers, they discovered the email evidence had been forged and police arrested Ahmed for harassment.

She later admitted to creating the fake emails but persisted in the lie that Mohammed was still harassing her.

When it was decided to prosecute Ahmed for harassment, far from stopping her campaign of destruction – she escalated it.

The disturbing case is to be featured in a new ITV documentary, The Real Fatal Attraction.
