Three suspects indicted in murder of Southern Miss football player MJ Daniels

Three of the four suspects are connected to the June shooting death southern lady footballer MJ Daniels were indicted, according to Forrest County court documents.

Orlando May, Allen Marcus Gardner and Shamir Green were previously indicted by a grand jury on capital murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

The three face additional charges.

May has one count of criminal possession of a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a stolen firearm and one count of felony eluding law enforcement. Green has one count of possession of a motor vehicle and one count of possession of a stolen firearm. Gardner has a charge of possession of a stolen firearm.

Nytavion Shaw, the fourth suspect, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in October.

All four are charged as adults.

May was also charged with burglary and aggravated assault in a separate case in July 2023.

On June 11, Hattiesburg Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired at the Ivy Row Apartment Complex near the Southern Miss campus. First responders found Daniels, 21, dead in the front seat of the parked black Dodge Challenger. The suspects fled in a stolen car. May, Gardner and Green were arrested later that week, while Shaw was arrested the following week.

Daniels, a starting defensive back, transferred from Oh miss at Southern Miss prior to the 2023 season and was set to be a senior for the Golden Eagles this season. Before that, Daniels was a three-sport star at George County High School in Lucedale.
